Jean Ida Hoffman
Certifications: Pilates Method Alliance (PMA)
American Council on Exercise (ACE)
Jean is passionate about Pilates. She came to The Method as a modern dancer and loved it immediately. Studying during the 1980’s with Mary Bowen, she was trained in the classic style which Mary learned from Joe and Clara Pilates.
As Jean continued her studies in Modern Dance and Pilates she taught in both of those disciplines. She pursued her graduate level education and went on to teach movement to young children in the public schools for 20 years.
She holds degrees in Dance, Adapted Physical Education and Special Education.
As a lover of all types of movement and a group fitness instructor, she has also taught a variety of fitness modalities in area health clubs.
Since 2001 Jean has devoted herself to teaching the Pilates Method exclusively, enjoying the group classes on the mat as well as private lessons on the equipment.
Currently, in addition to teaching at Smart Moves, she teaches Pilates mat classes at Smith College.
As a lifelong mover and teacher Jean believes strongly that the Pilates Method can help to empower people to reclaim their bodies after injury or inactivity, can assist people to diminish pain, improve posture, gain flexibility and strength, assist athletes or dancers to move more efficiently, and help people to be more comfortable in daily life.
